BELPER TOWN REVIEW OF THE SEASON 2024/25, NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE EAST SECTION

Image
ACTION from the impressive 2-0 win at Grimsby Borough in November OVERALL a very decent season for Belper Town, starting off in fine style looking like they might be Championship contenders and pretty much maintaining the away form all through the season though a couple of runs of home losses (which we seemed to address in late season) and a long run of draws were perhaps the main reasons we had to be content with a play-off place. In all fairness, Cleethorpes Town looked different gravy for much of the campaign and would have been hard to catch whatever. The play off semi final at Stocksbridge was a very tight game where Belper probably had slightly more chances, but an opportunist strike in extra time settled the issue after an impressive late rally had cancelled out ex-Nailer Luke Rawson's header from a corner, perhaps the only real  time he got any joy in the two games he played against us after leaving. The disciplinary record was much improved this time around and as ever, yo...

BELPER TOWN REVIEW OF THE SEASON 2023/24, NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE EAST SECTION

BELPER TOWN 2 DERBY COUNTY U-23s 1 PRE SEASON ULTIMATELY  a season that started with much promise fell away towards the end as Belper Town (in sixth place) narrowly missed out on their goal of reaching the play-offs having set the pace for the early weeks of the NPL East Division campaign. A stark look at the statistics shows all eight games were lost against teams in the final top four placings with a goal difference of 6 for and 31 against so its fair to say we didn't quite have enough quality overall against the upper echelons of the division, which was also evident when we were well beaten at home by Leek Town, champions of the Western section in the FA Cup preliminary round. That said, we often put the lesser teams to the sword, with seven wins out of eight games against the bottom four teams with 23 goals for and 7 against (the one loss being the gale-affected home game with Brighouse Town where we didn't adapt at all well to conditions).  Losing Danny South to the finan...

BELPER TOWN REVIEW OF THE SEASON 2022/23, NORTHERN PREMIER LEAGUE

NUNEATON BOROUGH away in the FA Cup 1QR FOLLOWING a great set of pre-season results, admittedly largely against teams from the lower ranks, optimism for the new season was high going into 2022/23 after promotion through the play-offs but it soon became apparent Belper were short in most areas when compared to the rest of the quality on show in this higher division. A gradual improvement over the season was not enough in the end as Belper were relegated with several games left in the campaign. Highlights were  the 3-1 win at Liversedge in February which lifted the team off the bottom of the table but ultimately the loss of playmaker Jacob Gratton in that game for two months with a hamstring injury was too much of a burden to overcome. Also the double over Stafford Rangers (2-1 and 2-0) and the first home win over Stalybridge Celtic (2-0). Lowlight was probably the 5-0 home loss to fellow newcomers Warrington Rylands which confirmed what a tough season lay ahead though they proved la...
